Dave's end of the hangar

Hello everyone.

If you did not make it to Airventure this year; shame on you. Except for a little rain the weather was fine. Not to hot, not too cold. The Beach Boys opened the show and there was lots of news.

Amazingly enough we were not the only company with news to publish there. What a concept. I thought we were the only company with news. If you want to read our news releases click here. Ok ok, so I still sound dizzy from the week at Oshkosh. There was all kinds of news and I am sure you have all read about it. But let me tell you about some of the news that did not make it into the mainstream press.

First of all; Corkey Fornof, of airshow and movie stunt fame, is flying our LoPrestiFury around the country and Airventure was one of the stops. Now we really baby this bird and she rewards us by being very faithful and rarely causing any trouble. BUT of course, on the way to Airventure is the one time that she decides she would look better with a new alternator. The FBO at Dekalb went WAY out of their way to help. Shuttled Corkey around the town to find parts and kept our baby safe in the hangar overnight. Even with all that help, Corkey still had to fly with a borrowed hand held radio up to Airventure.

It was not all wasted time because Corkey got to see tons of people on their way to Airventure while they stopped for the great service and a free meal.

Our display at Airventure was one of our better designs and really showed off the large range of products that we have. One product line we did not emphasize as much as we should have are our experimental and custom built aircraft products. Yes, LoPresti is now jumping into the non-certified market! We are not leaving our traditional market, just adding even more products. Let us just say that many Vans owners will have new cowling and fairing choices soon with other aircraft designs being added to the list, too.  Watch our web site and this newsletter for the details.

Opening day at Airventure we had the "A Team" on our staff; Corkey with the LoPrestiFury and David at the SpeedMods booth. That was one rocking day. Not even time to get any lunch. Way cool. I almost needed a cigarette after closing time. The rest of our team came in later in the week and I got out and to see the show.

This was the first year in 20 years or so that I got to get out and see some of the show. Hey! Did you know there is a lot to see there? I ran into Mike Hundere. Mike owns the company where I worked when I met my wife. She was QC Manager and I was in Engineering. I saw dozens of other people that I had not seen in years and years. That is one of the coolest things about Airventure! Finding lost friends.

I did find more people to be our guest speakers at our monthly First Saturday seminar here in Vero Beach. If you know any great speakers or have any suggestions for speakers I am working on the 2008 calendar right now.

I will be reformatting this newsletter and will be adding more content and, hopefully, more value. One column to be added will be from our FBO partners. We will feature and introduce these partners in more detail and let you learn more about these special FBO's. Another column will be from our Fury Partners. We have a lot of cool innovative updates in our plane and this will let us tell you more about all these neat gadgets.

If you have any suggestions on the format or content please drop me a note.

LoPresti Birth Announcement

That's right the flyboys at LoPresti have a new cowling for the Piper Turbo Arrow.

That's right, after months and months (ok...years) of waiting it's finally here!

This one started off like most kids.  A little wine, some nice music, a quick trip to Florida for some racy, fast fun; but then the parents, (FAA), got in the way and all the fun stopped.  But only for a little while.

Now after months of shouting, moaning, grunting and spilled oil the new "kid" is here. Even the parents have given us their blessing with a new STC. Gosh is she a beauty!

This new kit will make your beauty even better with all new carbon fiber composites to replace her aging fiberglass nose.  She will fly farther, faster, and cooler with this latest LoPresti cowling.

No baby fat here. This girl has sensuous lines and big round eyes that just shout, "Let's go fly fast, big boy!"

So if you have a plain Jane Turbo Arrow, but lust after the seductive curves of our latest creation call LoPresti at 800-859-4757 and call FAST.  The introductory pricing on this item won't last long.

Fury at Airventure
J.W.”Corkey” Fornof

What can you say about OSH?  It’s the Indy 500 of airshows, the Super Bowl of aviation enthusiasts.  This year I returned to OSH after a 20 year absence. The film biz had taken me away to film around the world. Many asked me if it had changed. Physically there were some changes but the heart and soul had not changed, Aviation Fellowship was still what it was all about.

Instead of the Bearcat, P-51 or my BD-5J I was in the LoPresti Fury (a combination of both of them.) I departed from Vero Beach with some new equipment, the Intuition iPod system a flight data recorder with music. The Fury and I danced and rolled our way north listening to tunes. Our mission was to arrive at OSH on Saturday and display the Fury at the Superior Airparts display right next to the new XP400 engine.

Arrival!!! Man, once you hit Ripon its organized confusion. You go IFRt- “I Follow Railroad tracks”-  to OSH. Airplanes everywhere, I was glad I had our ClearView camera system it made following the tracks easy besides seeing the aircraft in front of and below me. I wish the P-51A had had our camera system; it would have avoided that unfortunate accident. It’s unbelievable how much you can see on that 5X5 screen that you missed looking through the bubble canopy.

The Fury was a hit at Superior’s display. The people were non-stop, there were even some new questions. I did get a kick from the fact that every woman spotted the Intuition iPod instantly. I answered questions, handed out Fury information, signed many autographs, took a lot of pictures and collected addresses and information from people that wanted contracts sent to them.

I did get a chance to roam around one morning and was impressed with many displays but my favorite was the new Bendix/King avionics. It’s as if they took the fantastic Honeywell system out of a GV Gulfstream and shrunk it down for us smaller plane flyers. It has all the bells and whistles, its magic!

While I was with the Fury, David LoPresti and Jim Shafer were manning our LoPresti Booth for our SpeedMerchant division. I never knew where the day went. It seemed we just got started when we were closing up to head home.

Home at OSH was a rented house with six employees of LoPresti. It was a scene right out of the Odd Couple, complete with Oscar and Felix! It was as entertaining as OSH itself and a great adventure, thanks guys.

I want to also say that OSH would never have happened and we as pilots would not have as much aviation freedom if it were not for Paul P. and the EAA. If you aren’t a member, join. The membership price is worth the magazine alone. Thank you Paul and Tom. You're appreciated man.

"When can I fly it again?"

New LoPresti HubbaHubba Cap G2 (Generation 2)
 is now available.

There are a few things for airplanes that are simple and cool.  Some times when you see a gizmo you chuckle and say "How come no one thought of that before?"

The LoPresti HubbaHubba cap is just that kind of cool gizmo.  It's not rocket surgery just a simple update to your airplane that once you have it you will not know how you survived without it.

What is a LoPresti HubbaHubba Cap?  It is an airplane hub cap with an access door for the tires air valve.  Very simple.  Very LoPresti.  This HubbaHubba Cap has elegance.  A simple, smooth aerodynamic shape. That in itself might be enough but what is the cool factor?  We have added a flush fitting door with a 1/4 fastener to make the simple task of putting air in your airplanes tire easy.  No flashing lights.  It's not GPS enabled.  Not voice activated.  Just simply elegant......Cool.

What is different between the original HubbaHubba Cap and the new G2 HubbaHubba Cap?  Simply put we have updated the door.  We took the suggestions from our customers and in this revision we "improved" the door that every HubbaHubba Cap has always had.  Now the G2 HubbaHubba Cap sports a door that is much larger making air valve access much easier.

Now for a limited time owners with the original HubbaHubba Cap can upgrade to G2 for $95 after rebates.  That's nearly a 40% savings.   How do you get the rebate?  Buy new HubbaHubba caps from LoPresti FBO Partners or directly through LoPresti and receive the rebate form with your order.  You must return your old original HubbaHubba caps back with the rebate form to qualify.
