Dave's end of the hangar

Hello everyone.

I hope you have had a great holiday season.  We have had a great time here in Vero Beach.  As we are speaking we are finishing the physical inventory, (yahoo what fun), and are closing out our year.

More importantly we are planning the upcoming year.  It looks like we will be doing even more trade shows this year than last year and it starts early this year.

Our first Trade Show event will be at Sebring in January.  Whew, that will be a fast start to the year.

We are also planning many other shows and LoPrestiFury fly-ins around the country.

If you have any suggestions of great air shows, conventions or meetings that we should consider attending please let me know.

Our First Saturday Events here in Vero Beach are starting to shape up too.  We have some famous and some infamous speakers that we are contacting to be our featured speakers. Again I really want your input on speakers.  If you know of a great speaker point me at him.

Our new light kit for the Cirrus SR22 has been a giant hit.  We are having to really scramble to keep up with demand.  What a great problem to have.

Two other new light kits that are newly approved are for the Bell 206 and the Citation fleet.  We are shipping our first Citation kit next week and we expect this one to be another success.

The Citation has a real problem with the stock landing lights that is solved by the BoomBeam kit.  The stock landing lights are installed on the main landing gear legs and are right over the tire.  This is a great location as long as the runway is not wet.

Wet runway=wet landing light.

Hot landing light + water = no more landing light.

+ BoomBeam and problem is solved.  BoomBeams don't mind a little water.

Want to know an even bigger problem that is about to be solved?  Remember back a few months when I said that my son Matt graduated from ERAU and got a job in Columbia?

Well this kid popped the question to his girl friend and they will be married on January 5th here in Vero Beach.  YAHOO!  Don't expect me to answer any emails or phones that weekend.  Big party going on.

Email Congrats

Cirrus TriTips

"I love these lights!",  Alan Klapmeier

LoPresti TriTips™ lights passed the most critical test of all. In a recent night landing, these brilliant lights added to Alan Klapmeier’s personal SR22 landing visibility and taxi illumination. After landing, Alan, CEO and founder of Cirrus Design, remarked about his new HID tip lights “I LOVE these lights!”.

Visibility means safer conditions. Dimly lit runways have always been a reoccurring aviation problem. LoPresti, a big supporter of the Cirrus community, reacted to this need by developing the HID TriTips™. The system produces 1million lumens (in daytime lit like a 747), vastly improving depth perception on landing and providing supurb taxi illumination. The unique flush mount design of the lens accentuates the beautiful lines of the SR22 without the need for a glare fence. Aerotect thin film coating is added for lens/ leading edge protection, and separate cockpit switch for easy operation further refine this lighting solution.

In order to expedite installation and minimize labor hours, LoPresti has implemented a nation wide program with select Cirrus dealers. The purchase is an exchange process. The old tips are exchanged for the new and the aircraft in back in service with a minimum of down time. All necessary components including wiring, switches and even panel decals are included in this high quality kit.

Without a doubt, as Alan Klapmeier saw first hand, more light creates a safer environment for today’s pilot. Call a LoPresti TriTips™ stocking dealer for more information or call LoPresti SpeedMerchants 1-772-562-4757

In less than a month the Fury and I have put many miles and rolls behind us. Five displays, Fury aerobatic demonstrations all in twenty-two days, WOW. *(Next sentence not for Boss’s Curt’s & Rj’s eyes) If I wasn’t having so much fun I would be tired, I have come to the conclusion that like the Bearcat, all Fury flights seem to short and way to much fun. I was blessed with perfect weather and Fury curious attendance for all of these events. With so many events in a short time, I’ll try to hit on the most interesting parts of the Fury Blitz.

The Fury Blitz started off with the EAA Fly-in at Pineville, LA. Just outside of Alexandria. A short trip from Dallas the Fury was placed center stage. I hadn’t even shut down and there was a TV crew and newspaper reporter there to interview me. The Fury does make any pilot look great hahahaha. The airport is located on a small lake and includes an FAA approved sea way for seaplanes. The local EAA chapter turned old seaplane hangars into one of the best clubhouses I have ever seen. Picture the old hangars upgraded with covered decking out over the lake, decorated with aviation memorabilia, a first class commercial kitchen and big projection TV/DVD screen and that’s their clubhouse. WOW you say, well attached to this several other old hangars with covered decking making it a pavilion where on Saturday night a full orchestra played big band music as we danced. The Fly-In was a success with airplanes parked everywhere and flying constantly. The Fury will be back to this one.

Fredricksberg, TX.- Red River Swift gathering;

What a group of great people. The gathering was held at the Hangar Hotel at the airport, a unique place indeed. The hotel looks like a WWII hangar, the interior is period décor complete with big band music playing in the background. The Fury was right at home sitting amongst the Swifts that flew in for the event. Swift owners were all over the Fury asking why they couldn’t put this fairing or that cowl on their Swift or why the red line is so high. I know it’s hard to believe but it is an entirely different airplane they just look similar, kinda like a retro Cheve Camaro and an original Camaro. Friday was great, fun flying, formation check outs and instruction. Saturday the Fury and I participated in two missing man formation flights but most of the day was canceled because of high winds and turbulent conditions. It was blowing about 240 KTS. OK, OK it was only 30 KTS. It forced us all to seek shelter in the Hangar Hotel’s O Club where we switched to hangar flying. Pilots always have fun, don’t we?

Dallas VLJ (Porsche Very Light Jet Show)

Love Field was the site of the Porsche VLJ (Very Light Jet show.)  I guess it was named that as that was the original idea but it has grown into an adult toy show. At Love field on display were, the Light jets along with the newest such as Curris, Columbia and the Fury (best looking and most fun one there--- yes, I’m predigest and flown them all!) Also on display were some out standing Porsches, boats and RV’s --- big honking bus size RV’s. Quite the spectacle and a pleasant way to spend the day, hors d’oeuvres and catered lunch included. Unfortunately it’s an invited affair but I understand a visit to a Porsche dealer can secure an invite. Say, invite your wife, girlfriend, boyfriend and really impress her, him ohhhhhhh whatever hahahaha.

 Tallulah-Vicksburg Museum Air show;

I got a call from Steve Gustoffson of the Shell Aerobatic Team asking if I fly the Fury aerobatic show and be the main banquet speaker for the Museums airshow. In the past years I had flown many show in Vicksberg using the Bearcat and P-51 Mustang and knew it was a good area to demonstrate the Fury so off we went. Tied to the weekends events was also a T-6 formation school and check outs, there were T-6 everywhere, the noise was music to my ears. The weather was perfect, 100 miles vis and blue blue skies, I wasn’t going to pass this weather up and also did some filming for future Fury DVDs. I Flew out of the airport area over the Mississippi River and using the on board camera filmed some exciting Fury aerobatic maneuvers. Look for these in the months to come, great stuff.

The crowds, questions and autographs were plentiful around the Fury before the Fury did its aerobatic demo, after I was besieged. Many pilots asked if the Fury transition school adventure including check out, acro, formation and air combat classes would be open to any pilot, so you know, it will be.

The Shell Aerobatic Team flew one of the finest night shows I have ever seen. The combination of an absolutely clear sky sunset created a canvas for them to paint with their smoke trails a myriad of multi color refractions that was an aviators eye candy.

 Pecan Plantation Air Park, Fly-In;

As good as it gets and a pilots dream. This development is designed for several groups of interest, boaters, golfers and aviation. One of the first things to impress me was the corrals, not for horses but for golf carts, there everywhere. Plain ones, fancy ones, in the fields and on the roads. One Lady got me onboard and gave me a tour of the development. Beautiful homes, hangars, roads, paths and landscaping. As we crested a ridge approaching the airport the site of the Fury sitting among all the other Fly-In airplanes was one of those “I got to live in a place like this” moments. Yes, I spent the rest of the day answering question, handing out brochures and letting several pilots try on the Fury. There is no doubt in my mind several Fury’s will live here, luck Fury’s.

 Eastman, GA. And 1st sat.

Next the Fury and I are off to Eastman, GA. for a speaking engagement and presentation to aviation students at Eastman College. Vero Beach and LoPresti’s first Saturday Open House follows, if you haven’t made a LoPresti First Saturday put it on your list. Nick Jones, air race, test pilot and aviation hero will give a talk along with myself. Nick and I go back a long way and he has great stories. Last, I have to tell you that I have become addicted to the Fury’s camera and I-Pod systems. Both of these features are one of those things that make you ask “How did I ever get along with out them?” My eyes out of the cockpit is still primary but it is unbelievable what that camera sees, it eliminates the blind spot climbing out, letting down and the camera lens filter cuts haze by a good percentage. It’s not only for tail draggers, every airplane can use it. While the I-POD system is really for data recording of the engine, avionics and flight instruments, the tunes are great. Makes me want to open the canopy, set my elbow on the canopy rail and cruise to Classic Rock & Roll. Rj set this one up so it not only has your stored tunes but also FM radio, TV, EBooks etc. Sometimes I fly another 15 minutes just to finish a lecture. Go cross country listening to a book hahahaha Rj thinks of everything.

New BoomBeam STC's

We have new STC's available for our BoomBeam HID lights.  These lights are much brighter than the normal light and come with a 5 year warranty.

Bell 206

"The lights are a superior installation.  Main advantage is that there is no "splash back" of light into the cockpit as with the original installation, especially when near or on the ground.  Also, the beam is visible on the ground from about 700 or 800 feet of altitude."

Chief Pilot, PWB Leasing
