LoPresti Wing Lights for Cirrus SR-22

Cirrus Pilots Know the Cutting Edge,
And LoPresti Delivers It.

For years LoPresti has been supplying Cirrus pilots with leading edge technologies.  You probably know we provide Cirrus with the BoomBeam HID landing light.  What you may not know is that we now offer an upgrade to the already fantastic landing light by installing two more lights, one in each wing tip.

Here is a quote from our first customer Bob McElroy:

Simple statement is that instead of “1” there are now “3”. There is a major benefit in ground operations at night.  This is the absolute most benefit, because that is where you can spend a lot of time in a very dark environment.  The lights are also a major benefit right at time of night landing in the final transition to runway.

Here is a night landing explanation, you may or may not be a pilot.  In the words of an old flight instructor, “a typical night landing involves letting the aircraft essentially fly into the runway at a modest rate of descent”.  With the new LoPresti lights it is more like a daylight landing at the transition point in being able to see the runway so additional “flare or nose up attitude” makes for a softer landing.  Landings are very important so there is a real high-value association with the lights in that environment.

Simply put, the lights add a tremendous safety benefit to all aircraft operations.  With a 5,000 hour life span the lights will last through two (2) 2,000 hour engines which means that left on during flight enhanced visibility and conspicuity will result in a safer-sky environment for everyone.

The Fury Flies On
J.W.”Corkey” Fornof
Addison, TX

Like the song goes, “On the Road Again” that’s the Fury and I.
I’m running out of words to describe the fun the Fury is to fly, hahahah it’s just Funry.  My last tour was through southern LA., and MS. Yes, it was hot. The Fury has two big air vents that make it quite comfortable once in the air. Again the people seemed to come out of the hangar walls and the enthusiasm and questions make for a fun visit.

I must admit I discovered a bit of Tom Sawyer in me. You see the first thing I do when I stop on tour is to clean the bugs off the Fury. Try as I do I still can’t seem to dodge them in the air. Anyway, as I start cleaning the bugs off, people gather to look at the Fury and ask what I’m cleaning the bugs off with. That’s when Tom Sawyer comes into play, hahahah, I only use water on a paper towel and they don’t believe they come off so easy. Now if you have ever cleaned bugs off your plane or car you know it's tuff. I hand them my damp paper towel and say “here, try it, it’s easy, try a 3 FT. section.”  They do and admit it is easy. The Fury is coated with KnotWax which is a thin coat of real glass. Get in touch with   David or Jim and ask them about it. There are many advantages of KnotWax but bug cleaning is my main concern, I don’t like a dirty flying machine.

Unless I have to go under the weather I usually cruise between 8 and 12,000 FT. It’s cool up there and not many bugs. I have started measuring my trips in rolls, not miles or time. For example a 500 mile trip is a 10 roller, one roll for every 50 miles. It breaks the monotony and the Fury begs to roll. In fact aerobatics are so easy you can’t help from rolling or looping the Fury and you can do them all under 3 G’s. No need in beating up yourself or passenger, just enjoy the thrill of aerobatic flight. Several I have done aerobatics with never thought it would be as enjoyable as it was. Most thought it was going to be gut wrenching experience but they all enjoyed the freedom of a loop or roll and being able to talk through the maneuvers. Several have been surprised when I had them do the roll and talked them through it. Yes, I did remind them that not every airplane flies like a Fury.

I’m headed up to MN for several days then back to Addison, TX. for the 50TH. Anniversary of the Addison Airport and a big 4TH. Of July party.  I know your thinking, “Corkey” works too hard! Believe me, Flying the LoPresti Fury makes it easy. OH, that’s not what you’re thinking? Well if you have any Fury questions, send them to David. He’ll see to it that I address them in the next News Letter. Have Fun and remember, "Life isn’t a dress rehearsal!"

J.W.”Corkey” Fornof Taxiing in I had but one thought:
"When can I fly it again?"
