The
primary reason "Lights On 24/7” has never been adopted by
general aviation is cost. Lights burn out, labor is
expensive and, in some cases, alternator load is an actual
'safety of flight' problem. Thus, the lights stay off.
"Visibility is critical to aviation safety, " says Curt
LoPresti, President/CEO of LoPresti Aviation. "Our
BoomBeam HID Lighting Systems make continuous light operations
easy with low cost and a simple installation. Pilots can see
more, and THEY can be seen more easily. Using aircraft
lighting for daytime and nighttime recognition is probably the
simplest and most effective safety improvement a pilot can make.
Combined with our new PowerPulse flashing unit, conspicuity is
increased dramatically."
LoPresti Aviation
was the first aviation engineering corporation to develop
BoomBeam HID lighting for aircraft. They pioneered
efficient solutions using high output lighting combined with low
amperage draw (in most cases 5 times the light at half the
amperage and much lower heat). LoPresti's STC’d systems for
certified aircraft have a 5 year/5000hr warranty, completely
eliminating any reason to EVER turn aircraft lights off while
flying.
*"The FAA Announces Plan to Enhance Safety for New York Airspace
New pilot operating practices would require pilots to use
specific radio frequencies for the Hudson River and the East
River, would set speeds at 140 knots or less, and would require
pilots to turn on anti-collision devices, position or navigation
equipment and landing lights."
