What is a SpeedSpat?  LoPresti SpeedSpats will reduce the drag of the retracted (but exposed) main landing gear wheel.  As the air flows over the tire and moves aft, the flow cannot hop from the aft edge of the tire back to the airframe without getting disturbed.  If you have ever seen a bolder in a mountain stream you will notice that the water stays smooth until the downhill side where it gets turbulent.  Air flow is the same over the tire.  The SpeedSpat solves this flow problem by giving the air a fairing to follow and the Spat prevents the turbulent flow at the aft end of the tire.
